Children with Special Educational Needs & Disability

  • We are a fully inclusive setting able to meet the needs of children with special educational needs and disabilities.

  • We have an experienced special educational needs coordinator (SENCO)

  • Our building is accessible for wheelchair users

  • Parking is available immediately outside the nursery

  • Some staff are able to communicate using Makaton

  • We have a positive approach to supporting behaviour.

  • Staff are in the process of completing the Inclusion Development Programmes 1. Speech, language & communication (SLC), 2. Autism  3. Behavoural & social difficulties (BSD)

  • We have an Equality Named Coordinator, who works closely with Linda on issues of Inclusion, not just on disability / SEN basis but involving other equality factors and who involves all staff in making Saplings an inclusive setting. 

  • I CAN’s Early Language Development Programme (ELDP) builds upon our participation in the Government  ECAT project during 2008 & 2009

  • We have been awarded Essex Early Language EELCA Silver Award. The aim of this Award is to recognise a setting’s excellence in supporting and developing young children’s language and communication skills.

  • We have experience of supporting children with physical disabilities

  • We have experience of supporting children with allergies and special dietary requirements

  • Staff have Safeguarding, First Aid, Food Hygiene, Prevent Duty training routinely.

  • We are committed to working in partnership with Parents/Carers

  • We follow the principles of Early Support
